Roles & Responsibilities
General Ledger
Compile and analyze financial information; ensure all expenditures are mapped to the correct account
Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of journal entries, accruals, and prepayments in conformity with established accounting standards
Ensure all General Ledger accounts are fully reconciled and supported (bank, sub-ledgers, etc)
Create monthly accounting reporting packs including insightful commentaries relating to GL reconciliations
Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness
Ensure monthly closing of General Ledger and other financial modules are within the agreed timelines
Supervise the input and handling of financial data and reports for the company’s automated financial systems
Assist finance and other functions with general accounting entries or other activities as advised from time to time
Preparation of bank reconciliation
Ensure all bank accounts are fully reconciled; discrepancies between GL and sub-ledgers resolved; GL tidied up and balance sheet reconciliations pack updated monthly
Audit
Work with the Finance Manager and the GL team to ensure internal/external audits are completed within the allotted time by overseeing and/or providing all the required documents/information
Taxation
Accurately prepare monthly and quarterly VAT returns for VAT-registered entities
Work closely with Procurement Department for the allocation and reconciliation of VAT on imports as reflected in the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) portal
Ensure VAT returns filing are done, and tax dues are paid in a timely manner to prevent any penalty charges for delay
Prepare VAT returns report schedules, ensure all monthly and quarterly tax reports are fully reconciled with General Ledger, and maintain a complete tax return database in preparation for a tax audit by FTA
Maintain and update working knowledge of tax laws and regulations including new filing practices, deadlines, and any company-specific information.
Desired Candidate Profile
Qualified Accountant (CPA, ACCA, CA) with minimum 5-8 years relevant general accounting experience in construction, manufacturing, or FMCG environment
Sound understanding and working knowledge of IFRS, IAS as well as Value Added Tax (VAT) laws and regulations
Strong computerized accounting systems experience – preferably Oracle ERP system
Audit experience is useful
Ability to accurately prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Expertise in Microsoft applications like Word, and Advanced Excel and reasonable knowledge of PowerPoint
