NatureFinance (NF) is an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to aligning global finance with equitable, nature-positive outcomes and thereby accelerating climate goals and a just transition to sustainable development. Its work spans initiatives that are building and using biodiversity data to better manage nature-related risks, developing purposeful nature markets, advancing financial innovations including in sovereign debt markets, and strengthening nature-related liabilities and citizen action on nature.
NF is seeking a Senior Associate to lead our growing body of work on nature risk. This workstream focuses on advancing higher quality data, analysis, standards, policies, and regulations to better identify and manage nature-based systemic risk for both private and public financial actors. It includes NF-led research, tool development, convening and advocacy efforts, along with overseeing a portfolio of external grantees and consultants helping to advance our goals.
Senior Associate, Nature Related Risk
Below is a list of initial responsibilities that the Senior Associate (SA), Nature Related Risk will take on, to be refined and elaborated periodically in conversation with leadership, and with an eye towards growing this individual’s level of responsibility and transversal leadership within NF over time.
Alignment:
Coordinating and helping oversee a portfolio of working on alignment of financial flows (sovereign, financial institutions, and multilateral development banks) with nature positive outcomes, including several pilots that will help us road test and refine our prototype Alignment Tool ( launched at CBD COP15 ) with sovereigns, financial institutions and development finance institutions in 2023.
Working with leadership to consider potential partnerships with market-facing data providers based on a next generation of the alignment tool, and how the tool and methodology can be evolved over time to support nature positive, net zero and equitable transition planning consistent with the Global Biodiversity Framework and the Paris Agreement.
Overseeing several project managers leading specific country/institutional pilots, and supporting strategy development, learning and coordination across the alignment pilots and broader body of nature risk work.
Data, Standards and Regulation:
Coordinating and helping oversee a portfolio of work that currently encompasses (1) our engagement with the Task Force on Nature-Related Financial Disclosure (TNFD), (2) our efforts to engage Central Banks in deeper scenario planning, research, monitoring and guidelines around nature-related systemic risks to the global financial system and (3) our support for new approaches to nature-related data collection and analysis to elevate practices and expectations among financial markets and governance stakeholders.
Lead on fundraising (proposal development, donor outreach and engagement) as needed for relevant areas of work.
Lead on managing and monitoring associated budgets.
Expectation of support for other areas of NF work as needs and opportunities emerge (work streams, organizational development, etc) and bandwidth allow.
Requirements
•Fluent in English
• Experience in the area of Nature, Climate or Sustainability at large preferably with specific experience with Nature related risks
• Experience in working with multilateral stakeholders and Sovereigns in the Finance space is a plus.
• Complex project and stakeholders management experience is a must
• in depth Knowledge of the finance sector and Central banks is a plus
